2012 Constitution Hill Snowshoe Race – Information and Registration

Sponsored by Berkshire Natural Resources Council, with essential support from Dion Snowshoes, Western Mass Athletic Club, The Old Forge Restaurant, Berkshire Environmental Action Team, Berkshire County League of Sportsmen.

Schedule:

Registration Desk opens: 9:45 am

Race Start: 10:30 am

Fun Run Start: 10:35 am

Race Distance:

Approximately 5.5 kilometers. Vertical gain: 480 feet.

Snowshoes:

Bring ‘em if you have ‘em. Limited supply of loaners will be available w/ small fee, first-come, first-served. Let us know ahead of time if you will need them, we’ll do our best to help out.

Facilities:

No indoor facilities. We will have a porto-san.

Description:

Race starts downhill with approximately 1K circuit of open fields with views of Mount Greylock. Uphill out of fields into woods. Rolling terrain with gentle ascent to short steep climb at 4K, followed by moderate ascent to summit of Constitution Hill, then descent down ridgeline to finish.

Fun Run/Walk is in the open field described above. See map.

Cost: Registration: $5 for ages 16 and up. Families of three or more pay $10.

Children under 16 are free.

No pets, please.

Registration:

Please complete form at home, bring to event with cash or check payable to BNRC. (Form available at www.bnrc.net, or at the end of this information.)

Directions:

From North: Route 7 south to Lanesboro. Turn right onto Bridge Street. (Lanesboro Town Hall is on the corner.) Race start is at the top of Bridge Street, approximately ¾ mile from Route 7.

From South: Route 7 north to Lanesboro. Turn left onto Bridge Street. (Lanesboro Town Hall is on the corner.) Race start is at the top of Bridge Street, approximately ¾ mile from Route 7.

Parking:

Park on right side of Bridge Street (uphill – no parking in downhill lane). Please leave as much room on travelled way as possible. Please do not park on neighbors’ lawns. Carpooling is encouraged. Friends travelling separately can help by meeting at the Town Hall at corner of Bridge and Route 7, or at the Lanesboro Water Department on Bridge Street; either walk or carpool the last ½ mile to the start.

Complimentary BNRC membership and goody bag for all participants. Prizes for top finishers and others!

Refreshments:

Bring your own water bottle. We will have chili, light snacks, water.

Weather:

Mother Nature is fickle. We will do all we can to get this race in. If necessary, we will re-route or shorten the race. We will only cancel or postpone if conditions pose a danger to participants or volunteers, or will be destructive to resources on site. To be safe, check in at this website or call 499-0596 if conditions raise last-minute questions. . If possible, we will email all registrants with any changes

Safety:

Any outdoor winter activity poses risks; running on snowshoes may exacerbate those risks. Please exercise prudence and use good judgment, both with regard to yourself and your fellow participants. Conditions of the race course may change without warning. For their safety, please leave pets at home.
