Walter Cliff elected as BNRC's fourth chairman
Walter C. Cliff of South Egremont was elected chairman last December by the board of directors. Together with his wife Ursula, Cliff has long been a presence in Berkshire philanthropy. The Cliffs' support was instrumental to the Council's efforts to protect Baldwin Hill in Egremont and the Rubin property in Alford. The Cliffs are among the founders of the Egremont Land Trust, and have been long and loyal supporters of The Nature Conservancy's efforts to protect Schenob Brook, Jug End, and other properties farther afield. Just the fourth chair in the Council's history, Cliff succeeds Lewis C. Scheffey of Monterey, who served for 10 years. The late Donald B. Miller and Frederick G. Crane were the first in this distinguished line. |
