Greer, 20 acres, Great Barrington
In Great Barrington Peter and Gussie Greer completed a conservation restriction with the Council protecting hay fields along Hurlburt Road and the Alford Brook riparian corridor adjacent to Great Pine Farm, which is also protected by a CR. The Greer CR adds another piece of the puzzle to protect Alford Brook.
Corcoran, 40 acres, Becket
Charlie Corcoran of Becket preserved a 40 acre parcel that contains rich woods, forested wetlands and vernal pools. This property falls within the CommonwealthÕs BioMap and represents a high priority for biodiversity conservation in the Berkshire Highlands ecoregion.
Silverleaf, 206 acres, Lee
On November 17, 2004 a collaborative effort in Lee conserved 206 acres adjacent to Beartown State Forest. BNRC, the Lee Land Trust, Concerned Citizens for South Lee, Silverleaf Corporation and the Town of Lee all played important roles. The project is a good model that combines the eyes and ears of concerned citizens, the focus of a local land trust, and the expertise and full time staff of BNRC. The 206 acres is no longer threatened by the development of time share units.
Kellerman - McCain - Shapiro, 65 acres, Egremont
In another collaboration, BNRC worked with the Egremont Land Trust and three generous donors on Baldwin Hill. Neighbors Roberta Kellerman, Thomas and Wendy McCain, and David and Susan Shapiro, purchased the 65 acre parcel when it came up for sale and protected it a year later. It offers beautiful views to the east across open hay fields. Thanks to donations such as this one, Baldwin Hill retains a portion of its farming history.
