BNRC begins volunteer steward program
Volunteers have signed on to be stewards of particular properties and are donating their time doing bimonthly monitoring of trails and conditions, filing reports on maintenance needs, and being our eyes and ears out there on the trails. We are thankful for the generous gift of their time and talent on our behalf. We'd like to introduce them to you.

Sue Dunlaevy is a long-time resident of Lenox, where she manages her productive organic garden of fruits and vegetables. She is an active member of the Lenox Garden Club, serves on the Board of the Massachusetts Audubon Society, and works on the Horticultural Commission for the Berkshire Botanical Garden. She and her husband love to paddle, bike, ski and hike the Berkshires.

Mary Spina is an energetic, can-do-all woman who taught for 13 years at the Richmond School, and now is Co-Educational Director and Coordinator at the Berkshire Literacy Network. Hiking, fast skate-skiing and perennial gardening are Mary's favorite pastimes.

Rob Scott is committed to his community in New Marlborough, where he is a volunteer fireman. Rob is currently a regular contributor to WAMC's Vox Pop program, advising callers about stamps they may own. All fall Rob hunts turkey and deer by bow. He has graciously taken on the immense task of stewarding the Clam River Property in Sandisfield, where he has discovered remote corners that are home to a diverse array of wildlife.

Betsy Kaido drives from Valatie, New York to walk the Burbank Trail in Lenox for BNRC. In the past two years she has bicycled the circumference of the Big Island of Hawaii and the Erie Canal from Buffalo to Albany. If she is not reading, knitting or helping BNRC, she can be found volunteering for the New York State Museum History Department or the Columbia Land Conservancy.

Carol Wolfgram and Dona Burdick take care of Bob's Way. Dona lives in Monterey not far from the trail and has walked the property for years. She is an avid hiker and has volunteered for the AMC trail crew. She says, One of the reasons I am excited about being a steward for Bob's Way is that I really appreciate the donation of lands and the managing of them that BNRC oversees and want to be part of that effort. Plus, Bob's way is a gorgeous trail!

After attending the Shelter Institute Owner/Builder's School in Bath, Maine in the 1980s, Carol Wolfgram built her own house in Otis. Carol volunteers at the Berkshire Humane Society, the AMC and now BNRC, where she keeps an eye on Bob's Way with her friend and fellow steward, Dona Burdick.
Carol and Dona recently introduced a group of nineteen AMC hikers to the delights of these well-constructed and nicely maintained trails.
