RESOURCES REPORT BERKSHIRE NATURAL RESOURCES COUNCIL | ||
| VOLUME 16 | SUMMER 2007 | NO. 1 |
TLC for 15,000 acresNew hiking trails take center stage when it comes to BNRC’s land and conservation restriction management, but Stewardship Manager Bryan Emmett and our annual crew of seasonal John H. Rice Fellows take care of a great many assignments that never find a moment in the spotlight. Basin Pond got the headlines, but additionally in 2006, Emmett and his crew, with the help of volunteer 2,340 acres, prepared 10 management plans or inventories encompassing 2,330 acres, installed four trailhead signs and five kiosks, published four trail maps, installed two gates, cleaned over 50 water bars, built a secure storage room, reclaimed 1.5 acres of meadow, and administered the first round of invasive species control on 25 acres. Our thanks to MassWildlife’s Landowner Incentives Program and to the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Services Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program, as well as to our members and special funders for helping to make possible all of these stewardship initiatives.
