Rice Fellow Jon Peterson boosts BNRC stewardship
In May, Adams native Jonathan Peterson joined BNRC as its 2009 Rice Fellow. Jon is thrilled that his path has led him back to the Berkshires and to a position that allows him to contribute to the conservation of a landscape so meaningful to him. After a childhood exploring the hills of northern Berkshire County, Jon struck north on Route 7 to Vermont’s Middlebury College. Graduating in 2005 with a joint degree in Biology and Environmental Studies, he returned to Massachusetts, joining the Boston-based Henry P. Kendall Foundation to work in various capacities furthering the Foundation’s pursuit of its joint priority areas of climate change and landscape-scale conservation. Jon’s tenure with the Kendall Foundation extended for a little more than two and a half years. Seeking an opportunity to engage in direct, on-the-land conservation, Jon signed on for a summer with BNRC. Jon has been valuable help in monitoring our 93 CRs, preparing baselines for new CRs, maintaining trails, inventorying natural resources, marking boundaries, and working on habitat-improvement projects. BNRC’s summers are busy; Rice Fellows like Jon allow us to accomplish our mission.
