STEWARDSHIP MANAGER

Berkshire Natural Resources Council (BNRC), a regional land trust based in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, seeks a full-time Stewardship Manager.  The ideal candidate will be a bright, self-motivated manager who has some experience in land trust stewardship work and wants the opportunity to expand his or her knowledge and skill-set.  BNRC manages 16,000 acres in aggregate, with approximately 9,000 acres protected by conservation easements and the balance in fee simple holdings.  The Stewardship Manager oversees, and in many cases carries out, a broad range of property and easement management tasks.  Preparation (or oversight) of baseline documentation reports and annual easement monitoring and assistance with the development of related policies are the core of BNRC’s easement stewardship program.  BNRC’s land management agenda seeks to maximize community benefits of conservation lands.  The organization’s fee land management program has grown rapidly in the last five years, and today includes a vigorous trail construction and management program as well as projects encompassing invasive species control; wildlife habitat restoration; and forest management.  Stewardship Manager’s responsibilities will include hands-on field work (boundary marking, resource inventory, trail maintenance, invasives control, etc.) as well as management of contractors, consultants, interns and volunteers.  Practical experience with ArcMap 9 and database management are required, as is practical experience with land management and field reconnaissance, including map, compass and GPS skills.  Maintaining landowner relations is essential to the organization’s success, and the successful candidate will have good interpersonal skills.  Competence in writing is a must; excellence a major plus.  Candidates must be physically fit for field work.  Please forward cover letter and resume to Tad Ames, President, Berkshire Natural Resources Council, Inc., 20 Bank Row, Pittsfield, MA 01201, or tames@bnrc.net.  Competitive compensation package includes full benefits.  Job will remain posted until filled.
